Description

DO NOT MISS THIS! For sale is an investment grade, UNWORN COMPLETELY NEW sterling and gold trophy buckle made by legendary silversmith AHMAD KHAN for ED BOHLIN. It takes a 1.5 inch belt and measures 3.25 by 2 inches.
This piece is exceptional in several ways.
First, it is a Bohlin classic that has been sold since the 1940s and only recently discontinued (why, I do not know). Before discontinuation a new sterling/gold bronco buckle retailed for 00, now it will have to be custom ordered through the Bohlin company as they only offer the all sterling or tri-color gold versions. Also to note is that modern Bohlin buckles use buckle dies that have been remade by Montana Silversmiths, the original Bohlin-made dies are no longer used (some have worn down most were sold off by short-sighted Bohlin owners in the 1980s), but they were still in use when this piece was made.
Second, this piece is double hallmarked AK for Ahmad Khan. All Bohlin collectors have heard the legends told about Khan, and this buckle is testament to truly, the greatest western silversmith since Ed himself. I have seen several examples of these Bronco buckles, none of the Bohlin and only a few of Ahmad’s pieces feature the high-res detailing of the horse and rider. This is a key detail to look for when collecting this design (called the Ol’ Timer). I have tried to capture it in pictures but there is almost a proof-like finish that sets out the rider from the horse. The engraving is out of this world – between the myriad flourishes is a superfine horizontal etching that really brings out the engraving. In one word, a masterpiece.
Ahmad’s recent closing of his website limits his orders to already-known clients as the last old world master prepares to retire, but this piece ordered through him, if you could, would cost over 00 today. Ahmad Khan buckles have been skyrocketing in price just like Hackett when he retired, and are investment grade quality. I have attached several recent auctions of other Khan buckles. You will note that most of those pieces are dazzlingly elaborate, which I’ve noticed as a collector makes it a bit hard to wear sometimes because of how valuable and attention-grabbing they are. The entire time you’re worried about scratching it against a table or getting robbed! Here is a chance to buy an understated Bohlin classic, in a timeless but understated style, truly for the last time ever.

Please save my profile and check back as I list some of the rarest and most significant Western buckles from my collection amassed over decades! All my prices are based ONLY on market trends and previous auction results, to guarantee that you get a fair price for a lifelong treasure. I entertain reasonable offers in the first couple weeks of an auction listing as a courtesy for a quicker sale, but my pieces are not priced for lowball offers or intensive haggling. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. I repeat, all sales are final. I post ample pictures of my pieces and detailed descriptions, and my inbox is always open for questions. Thus, there is no room for miscommunication or poorly described listings. I attempt to date all my buckles using my knowledge as a collector and through serious research – I will never deliberately lie about the provenance of a piece. However, please do not try to dispute the age or other aspect of a piece AFTER you have purchased it – there is plenty of time for questions and clarifications before the bidding ends.
As all my belts and buckles are vintage to antique, please zoom in closely and be aware of every aspect of the item. I will never omit a serious issue, but I cannot account for every ding, scratch, etc. You are responsible for being an informed buyer, that means doing your research, asking the proper questions, and following the rules of this auction. I have found that collectors of Western Americana are some of the most decent and upstanding people I have met in my life, so I am sure this will not be an issue. Thank you and God bless!
For your safety and mine, all items are packaged directly at the post office and filmed from the moment they enter the box to the moment they are accepted by the clerk, to guarantee that they are shipped in the same condition as advertised.
