Rare 1933 Karl Goetz Dr. Martin Luther 450th birthday commemorating silver medal; sharply struck silver medal with high relief and mate finish; Kienast reference #490. The medal is expertly done in the unique Karl Goetz artistic style; the rim is marked “BAYER. HAUPTMUNZAMPT. FEINSILBER” (Bavarian Head Coinage Office. Fine Silver). Very attractive light-gray patina with purple overtones; weights about 20 grams, 36.2 mm in diameter. This specimen is in excellent uncirculated condition with original patina; this type is scarce in general and rare rare this nice. This rare medal is not a later reproduction or a copy; it is guaranteed to be 100% genuine or your money back. Not cleaned; these are the actual photos. Karl Goetz became an artist known around the world for his 1914-1923 satirical medals. He created close to 800 medals overall; all are very collectible and highly prized today.

Karl Goetz was born in Augsburg, Germany and studied in Leipzig, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Utrecht, Le Locle (Switzerland), and in Paris. With the start of WW-I Karl Goetz became an artist known around the world for his 1914-1923 satirical medals. Overall, Goetz created about 180 satirical medals and close to 800 medals overall; all are very collectible and highly prized today.
