Description
Edwards Foreline Trap model FL20K with NW25 Flanges. Condition is "Used".Typically used to prevent hydrocarbons back-streaming from small to medium sized rotary vane pumps.
Pro Tip #1 - install the trap nearer to the vacuum system. It's common to see them installed right on top of the pump but this can saturate the alumina charge very quickly
Pro Tip #2 - ever notice that your pump down times can be longer in the summer? The activated alumina charge can become saturated with water vapor, especially if the chamber if full of hot humid air. It can lead to an extended pump down time. Some times a bypass around the trap is a good idea if you want to save a little time.
Pro Tip #3 - the trap doesn't have much effect above 1 Torr as the flow is in the laminar regime and there is negligible back-streaming at that pressure. The trap is really intended for two stage pumps running at or close to ultimate vacuum where you are concerned about hydrocarbon contamination.
Pro Tip #4 - the activated alumina charge can be reactivated by baking at 2500 to 300 Degrees C for a couple of hours.
