Description
This is a beautiful, nearly uncirculated, extremely low mintage and thus quite scarce,
"Commemorative"
Three Reichsmarks from the
"Weimar Republic"
of Germany. It was struck in Berlin to celebrate the three hundredth anniversary of the first
"Rebuilding of Magdeburg"
in 1931 and carries the
"A"
mint mark.
Founded by Charlemagne in the year 805, Magdeburg was one of the largest and most prosperous German cities and a notable member of the Hanseatic League. The
"Catholic League"
sacked and destroyed it in 1631, killing 25,000 people, the most horrendous loss of life during the
"Thirty Years War"
. During World War II it was nearly bombed out of existence, requiring another rebuilding.
The
"Weimar Republic"
existed in Germany from the end of the
"Empire of Germany"
that lost World War I, until the rise of the
"Third Reich"
in Germany that lost World War II.
Weight: 15.07 Gram, 30 Millimeter, .500 Silver. Mintage: 100,000.
As a comparison, the famous 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent had a mintage of 484,000 pieces.

The Coin:
A lightly circulated example, it has some minor marks and spots but much cartwheel luster remains. It has been well cared for since 1931 and it is totally original, never cleaned or polished. As grading is subjective please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
